Amy Hawkins, a member of 91亚色传媒's Science Outreach and Communication Committee, shares strategies for effectively communicating your research as an advocate for science. Also, Sean Gallagher from AAAS discusses scheduling a congressional meeting in your home district for maximal impact along with tips for a successful meeting.

Amy J. Hawkins

Amy J. Hawkins is an assistant professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine, where she directs a graduate certificate in personalized medicine. Previously, she was a postdoctoral fellow at the , authors of the world’s most widely used life science website. Hawkins was a candidate for Salt Lake City Council District 5 and chairs her local community council, advocating for Salt Lake's Ballpark neighborhood at local and state levels. Her work in science communication and advocacy continues to shape policy and science education from Utah to the national stage.

Sean Gallagher

Sean Gallagher
Deputy director of federal relations, American Association for the Advancement of Science

Sean joined AAAS in 2015 and handles a wide range of policy issues and focuses on engaging and encouraging scientists to demonstrate their value to their peers, the media and policy makers. He spearheads grassroots efforts and serves as a liaison to Congress and the executive branch. Prior to joining AAAS, Sean spent over seven years on Capitol Hill as a legislative aide to five members of Congress, helping represent districts in Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, California, and most recently was a policy advisor to Representative Rush Holt from central New Jersey.
