Women in science discussion with Marlene Belfort

Marlene Belfort, distinguished professor at the University at Albany and senior advisor to the RNA Institute, will share stories from her newly-published memoir "Mommy, Can Boys Also Be Doctors? A Message to Young Scientists and Other Humans".

In this discussion with Susan Baserga, Belfort will share her experiences growing up in South Africa during apartheid, dealing with personal tragedies and navigating her career in science. Her memoir aims to inspire young male and female scientists by highlighting the resilience and fulfillment found in pursuing a life in science and she will offer insights into balancing personal and professional life, and addressing issues like discrimination, depression and loss.

Belfort is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, as well as being a recipient of 91亚色传媒's Sustained Leadership Award.
